The Buick Reatta was a marvel of technology, and a tremendously interesting and unusual car. Today I'm reviewing the Buick Reatta, and I'm going to show you all the quirks and features of this interesting coupe. I'm also going to drive the Reatta and show you what it's like on the road.

that touch screen looks like it's from the first Alien movie lol, I bet those touch screens went bad in 5 years or less.... from what I see online overhauling the touch screen costs $500 $75 core charge..

Quirky that above the unleaded fuel only there’s diesel fuel only. Maybe that was an option to have the old diesel they used in other models.

Styling is more like a 7 - it was styled by two different teams, one did the front, the other did the back, which is why it doesn't really flow together well. But the idea was for it to have an Italian look - and unlike Doug, I think it actually looks better now since it's not generic. One thing that is odd is pricing, I recall these being fairly expensive, which is why they didn't sell. If these are selling used in only that $10-12k range, I might try to buy one, at least one with a CRT.

After all this time, I FINALLY figured out DougSpeak by watching this video: "Unusual" = Strange or unnecessarily weird for its own sake. "Interesting" = Idiotic beyond all description. "I like that" = This is comically goofy. "Unfortunately" = Nearly catastrophically. I'll need to remember these definitions and go back to see what he was REALLY saying about other cars! :)

My father had a Cadillac Seville from the '70s that had the so-called cornering lights (and so did his Buick Electra 225). Hi Citroen SM had the headlights that would turn to the steering wheel's movement. Amazing to see how old technology is making a come back in the 2020s.

I have the opportunity to buy one of these as my first car and it's in immaculate condition should I?
sofadviolator Pirms 22 dienām
Yes and no. If you're going to take care of it and maintain it well, then yes. These can be pricey to find some parts (mostly the braking system) and windshields can be $1500-$2500. Best thing you could do would be to buy it, store it and get a beater toyota camry as your daily driver. Eventually this might be a collector car depending on the condition due to its rarity.

Doug is actually wrong. The Buick Riviera, in 1986, was the first Buick to have a touchscreen. Actually, it looks like the Reatta has the exact same touchscreen and dash as the Riviera. I know because my dad had an '86 Riviera and I borrowed it many times.

Was amazing for the day. Hand built, but Buick customers still looked for comfortable cruisers like LeSabre & Park Ave. The light bar fogged after 2 yrs in the sun, a major defect. A super rare, garaged since new is a unicorn, with perfect light bar.

When I was a kid in the 1980s, a friend of mine's dad had a Reatta. In addition to all the high-tech display and controls, his was fully decked out with all the options, including heated seats and an electric tire pump built into the trunk. The cold weather in the Chicago area played havoc with the electronics though, and by the early 1990s much of the dashboard display had stopped working.

As a career mechanic, I worked on one of these around 2001....it had a leaking freeze-plug, things were so cramped, so inaccessable, I pulled the engine to replace all the freeze plugs...the car had maybe 80K miles, upon replacing all the plugs, I noticed the original suspect plug had a solid wall of rust behind the plug, extending some four inches down inside to the pan-rail. Sensing something was tragically wrong, I filled the block with coolant to check for leaks...from that freeze-plug down, four inches worth, the rust had eaten the block itself paper-thin...so much so, I could poke a hole bigger & bigger with a screwdriver...total garbage, junk. New engine block was needed.
