The Cadillac Allante is a quirky, interesting Italian/American luxury convertible -- and it was also a failure. Today I'm reviewing the Cadillac Allante, and I'm going to show you all around it -- and I'm also going to show why it failed. I'm also going to drive the Allante and review the driving experience.

why is is to a specific city but from just in Italy? did pininfarina change where they produced this over time or was it just some strange oversight of the creator?

GM is just such a sad company... LOL always excuses... "This was GM in the 90s" Now it's "This is GM in 2020, still sucking and cutting corners, making advances in years old technology"

Its really a SAAB but without the usual SAAB quirks. GM "owned" SAAB at the time, till its demise 2012. Had a 1999 9-5 model with 2.3L Turbo. So watching this video brought back many (mostly good) memories.

Ahh please this car is horrible. Your overall score is way high. Compare this to an Acura Legend of the time an this Cadillac feels late 70s. The interior quality's is horrible. Even a 1993 Ford Escort looks better inside and out!

Was better to stick with the other front wheel drive Caddy convertible the Cadillac Eldorado Biarritz convertible was far prettier and i bet many buyers opted for the Eldorado and not an Allante.

This guys scoring system makes no sense to me. He vocally praises the cars acceleration during the drive in the video (and is even made giddy by it), noting that it does 0-60 in 6 seconds, which is pretty good even by modern standards... but gives the acceleration a 2 out of 10??? Is this like golf scoring here? Do you want to get a low number?

I'd just like to remind everyone that this top of the line, state of the art, Cadillac flagship car, was beaten by an Oldsmobile badged Blazer in 91, because at least the Blazer/Jimmy/Bravada told you which directional turn signal was on. Lmao

Little boy’s messing their shorts clicking on a internet hottie. You my friend keep documenting the history of older cars that more people have seen and driven or youth haven’t seen. Japanese cars of that era wasn't simple. In fact far more advanced. They also had digital dashboard, and much more like: adjustable suspension,TV, ultrasonic mirror cleaning, fridge, kettle, electric curtains, motorized spoilers and so on. Ah, and the main thing, all those toys works even 30 years later like on the day one.

Videos about these cars the exceptionally well for me. I do not like thosemodern supercar thingys...They are not as quirky as these older cars. Especially it is always enterntaining to see, what was considered important or modern back then.

Being 45, I remember when these came out in 87. As a styling exercise, it was reasonably well regarded, but as a GT convertible, it was widely regarded as a sloppy mess. I thought they were cool looking, and I remember going with my dad to the GM building (which housed FAO Schwartz toys in midtown Manhattan), and sitting in an Allante they had in the lobby showroom. As a kid, the dash (in 87) looked like something from Bladerunner. In the late 80’s, button count in many American and Japanese cars (and even a few French cars) had become synonymous with luxury and technology (more buttons == more computery stuff). It was a fad that died a quick death, along with the hard-edged techno-interior styling of the 80’s. It was the 89 Lexus LS400 and the 1990 Audi 100 , with their organic, sweeping dash designs, and less is more aesthetic, that almost all cars, even today, still borrow from. By 1993, the square computery button bonanza interior of the Allante looked absurd and very, very dated, especially sitting in the same showroom with the 93 Seville/STS and Eldorado/ETC, which had interior design that was a direct (and very successful) cross between Lexus LS and the Audi 100 Additionally, while neither a drop-top or a 2-seater, by 93 Cadillac had the 12th generation (E-Body) Eldorado TC, with 295BHP Northstar. The 93 ETC simultaneously looked far more expensive inside than the Allante (modern sweeping teardrop dash, lots of real wood, handsome gauge cluster) while being far less money. The Eldo, while still a big, under-steering FWD mess, at least had a high degree of body rigidity and had excellent NVH refinement. Having driven the 93 Allante back to back with the 93 ETC, the Allante felt like a Chrysler K-car with a big V8, the ETC felt like a legitimately expensive high-buck Cadillac Coupe. The 92-93 Eldo/ETC and it’s 4door sister, the Seville/STS, were both massive jumps forward for Cadillac (which they then, in typical GM fashion, allowed to stagnate for over a decade - hell, the later g-body Seville was actually a step backwards). Oddly though, today it’s the Allante I want for my collection. The exterior styling has crossed the threshold into classic car territory. The dynamics of the car don’t matter, because even the best luxury cars from that era are relics by today’s standards (you’ll get better dynamics from a modern run of the mill generic crossover). The Allante is rare and looks like the 1980’s on wheels. I imagine driving one on a warm summer day must make you feel like “Sonny” Crocket or Tony Montana.

The worst thing about the Allante was the torque steer especially if you had the Northstar v-8.. You had to yank the wheel in the opposite direction when you floored it but it was a cool car..

There's something about those old-school digital displays that I like better than most modern displays. Probably because they tried to look different and futuristic from analog gauges rather than completely ape them, and they most likely couldn't because the tech was limited at the time. So car companies were forced to be creative with what they had.

to be fair, the "seek" button skipped to the next song on a tape deck and "repeat" went back to the beginning of the track on a tape player. So, it was likely like that to preserve the function of the button across CD and tape.
