Cup holder is designed for this particular car. Pulls cup holder out to reveal a piece of wood glued to it wrapped in duct tape.🤣 also the air horns are aftermarket.

If I remember correctly, the long version of the CX was named Prestige. It was based on the Break Station Wagon design with a tail door, which had an extended chassis and axes spaced an extra 25cm than the regular CX, which was called Berline. Citroen CX where fantastic cars, totally different from all the boring off the rack design of cars back then. A car for individualists.

so, if i understand correctly, you, the right handed fella, open your drivers side door with the right hand, switch hands, to slip by the door frame, while left handed people do it the correct way, by just grabbing the door with the left hand and slipping by. passenger side, i use the right hand of course, because i don't have to switch hands, in the process of opening the car door. about the rear window, i think i heard somewhere, that they did that to avoif having a rear wiper. like, the idea was, that when it rains, the water drops would just collect in the middle, and create a clean stream downwards. i don't know if that is actually how thing work, but like i said. rumors.

Welcome to the car world. Americans think that knowing about cars is choosing which of the 3 transmissions and engines available on the market, and fitting them into basic chassis with rudimentary brakes and leaf spring suspensions without any science at all. With all due respect, the lack of knowledge about cars is reflected in some comments about the car throughout the video, making it seem like the car was meaningless. God "Thunderbird T"... what a small world you live in. And attention, I'm not a fan of French cars, I'm a fan of automotive technique, no matter the brand, everything has an origin from where it's developed.

Being french, and liking old cars, it is funny to see how an american talks about this car. I think the video lacks a bit in terms of context, for example this car replaced the DS as the citroen flagship car, which was not an easy predecessor to live up to! For the power figure, I think it is interesting to remember that there were versions of the Ford Mustang at the time that had even less power than this car, and they were supposed to be muscle car I believe.

My father had a CX 25ie (1986), automatic gearbox from ZF, not turbo , short wheelbase. The interiors were all leather, but the previous design, much more interesting IMO. Starting by the dashboard with horizontal , rotational speedometer. The power window controls were all in the central console and not in the doors. The window at the back is concav to avoid dirt getting trap there as there is no rear wiper. I still remember all the long trips I made in this car in great comfort.

Not Weird at all for the 80's! what is common today was futuristic and very special then, especially the CX-GT and SM versions..., was the Tesla of its era!, years ahead than anyone else...; In the 50s-70s, was the same with the Citroen DS also... The curved back window, was designed to use airflow to remove the water when it rained, hence did not need a rear wiper...

Its mindboggling how some self-absorbed Americans refer to anything as weird if its different from what they are used. It's just different. I bet you when they go to other countries and they see they are driving on the other side of the road as wierd or distance in kilometers not their miles.
dH2e
dH2e Pirms dienas
Yes, but that’s exactly what “weird” means, isn’t it? I am German and for me other languages also sound “weird” because I don’t understand them and aren’t what is normally hear. The American measuring system is also weird for me as a German, but for an American it’s the way around. And I also think that this car is absolutely weird in many ways.

Its a unique car. We have had a couple of these when i was a kid, diesels. Normal and the stationwagon with 3 seats, 3rd facing forward. Its not that difficult to fix them, you just have to think in a "french" way. My father always compaired them comfortwise to Nash, and the only car he didnt get tired of driving thru europe. Ahhh, and the brakes, very short pedaltravel takes a little to get used to, and thanks to the suspension, you can load it with how much you want. Just a perfect car for long trips :)

"The Shark"... That was the nickname of this car here in Serbia. Or rather, the entire line that shared this general shape (including its smaller predecessor GS). However, Citroen was not widely popular here until recently. What helped was, most likely, the giving up of (most of) those quirks as well as Citroen starting cooperation with some companies from here which made them a bit more affordable. I myself am currently the owner of a 2004 Citroen C2. After a year of owning it, I still am not used to it completely and just feels a bit weird driving it for some reason. For example, all of my previous cars were VWs and even today when I sit at the wheel of any of those, I feel great... Back to Citroen... The only quirk I can find in C2 is - location of power window switches. They are on central console, in front of the shifter! Basically on the floor, blocked by the shifter! Why? Beats me... BTW, 2:30 - my guess why the handle is like that, better suited for opening it with left hand is because they presumed you would hold your car keys with your right hand while unlocking it... Oh, one more thing... Even here (Europe) nowadays, French cars are known to be complicated and expensive for maintenance and repairs, generally speaking... Less true today, but still... The most notorious for this is Peugeot, 2nd place goes to Renault and finally - Citroen.

The Prestige is the long wheel base limo version and has the raised roofline from the estates. It looks slightly odd as a result. The steering is like this as the geometry of the system provides no natural self centering - however it is incredibly stable and deals with a tyre blowout no problem - as does the suspension which can even cope with 1 rear wheel missing!

That "trigger door opener" is done to prevent people from reaching in and opening the door when trying to break in in a drive-by. It's very hard to reach under when standing next to the car. Way easier when sitting in the car.

I had a Citroen BX in the late 90's. The best car I have ever driven, also the most expensive car to keep maintained and running on a monthly basis. But I still miss that car to this day, the best car I have ever owned or driven. The way the front of the car would rise up when you stamped on the accelerator, driving bliss !!

4:47 They probably could have made them self canceling, but anyone who has owned or driven any French car from the 50's up till the early 90's will know.. The French did not do self canceling indicators. 16:11 The reason it's so huge is because it's a "Prestige" edition, which had a longer wheelbase than the normal CX.

Growing up we had a GS, then a BX. They shared many of the weird features mentioned here. The other great feature of the suspension was when you needed to change a wheel. Set it to full height, place the jack at the jacking point, wind it so it touches the floor but doesn't lift the car, then turn off the ignition. The other 3 wheels sink back down, and the wheel that you are trying to change gets lifted off the ground by the angle the car leans to. You barely need to manually operate the jack at all. The BX had 2 headphone sockets in the rear - plug headphones in and the radio was muted and sent to the headphones. As kids we loved this. It had the rear window controls at the back of the centre console as mentioned, accessible to the driver and all passengers but didn't have the extra ones in the door. I suspect the ones in the door were only fitted on more expensive models.
Leffe Levenque
Leffe Levenque Pirms 7 dienām
We used to own one back in the 80ties, mom would get upset each time she broke a fingernail while trying to open the door. The door handles are not very nail friendly. @ lvlocal.info/down/video/mYbH3mStiYaAqqc.html you mention there is no gear indication, however originally there was, you can see the little rectangular space where there used to be a little plate showing the gears. It is just missing on this car. Blank buttons are actually pretty common on many brands in Europe of that era. They are used for options not purchased on your model. No lid in the trunk is more an advantage than a problem. Chances of id opening while doing a hill climb are relatively small compared to the comfort of not have to lift heavier things over a trunk-lid.

Note that Cx is the name of the Drag Coefficient in French (noted Cd in Englis), therefore the name CX of this vehicle who was designed with a shape offering the lowest drag coefficient of the industry at this time. Even the concave rear window contributed to the low drag. See fr.wikipedia.org/wiki/Coefficient_de_tra%C3%AEn%C3%A9e#Valeurs_du_Cx

Thank you for the fun review of this weird car. I remember a neighbor of mine who had this car when I was a kid. I suspect that the cup holder receptacle is a second car radio slot. At this time, there were some car radio extensions to add more features like a tape player, a graphical equalizer, an extra amplifier, etc.

Hi. Why are you so sarcastic? Why, coming from a country who had invented nothing the last 50 years, do you judge before thinking? If you want a car as confortable as a hydro Citroën you will have to pay at least two o three time the price. Citroën always had different points of view. You say he get "only" 170 HP. Probably you forgot the nice, high-tech and potent US cars of the 80's and early 90's....

I have had three Citroen CX in the past the steering is a bit strange at first but brilliant when you get used to it, the suspension system also operates the power steering and brakes, the brakes taking some getting used to as it is like putting your foot on a brick, but they are very comfortable and very safe as if you should suffer a tyre blow out the suspension system takes all the weight off of the tyre that has blown out and keeps the car under control, in fact Citroen made a video for advertising purposes showing one being driven with a wheel missing. If Citroen were to start making the CX again then I would not hesitate in buying one.

This guy has very much missed the point about the steering wheel stalks. This design was deliberate to avoid the driver needing to take their hands off the wheel. if you keep your hands at "10 and 2 o'clock" you can access the buttons for lights, indicators etc and dropping down to 9 and 3 o'clock you can get the other buttons. It's not a consequence of the single stalk wheel which is purely aesthetic.

The Citroen CX was first a British BMC. BMC used _subframes,_ which would hold the engine, g/box and suspension all in the frame. The rear subframe held the suspension. This approach was easy to adept to new cars. Just restyle the body and bolt on the subframes. Farina designed a car for BMC using Austin 1800 subframes. The design was rejected by the useless BMC management. Citroen took it up. The BMC is the yellow car: citroenvie.com/tag/bmc-1800/
